We're sitting in the sun-flooded solarium recalling our historic week at Inish Beg and the West Cork coastal villages.
A long time dream - to visit my paternal grandmother's Irish cottage at the head of Baltimore Harbour with my children and grandchildren - has occurred complete with movie set dwellings of The Lodge with its pastures of horses, cattle and sheep. We walked the sea coast paths, explored the medieval walled acres, visited the family castle, hiked to the top of Lough Hyne. Lunched with Irish cousins - the Leonards of Reengaraga - at the Sibin Pub, found a ring fort replica in Clonakilty - a week of magnifient bounty! Thanks Paul and Georgiana, Everyone was captivated by your charm.

Absoultely Wonderful!!! I give thanks and praise to my brother in law Brian who came upon this little slice of Heaven for the family to gather -- It's truly a gem!
My first trip to Ireland will never be forgotten and certainly it will not be the last. Inish Beg has brought me an amazingly geat sense of comfort and happiness! Thank you for your hospitality - and a special thanks to Alan who not only took care of us all, but became a friend - God Bless! Can't wait to come back. Believe I've fallen in love with "Muddy" the horse (as we named him for obvious reasons). Please give him a carrot or two from me!

To be honest we were supposed to be staying somewhere else (Plan A) however, they never returned our calls so we resorted to Inish Beg (Plan B). Plan B is now the Plan A. We couldn't be happier. Savage spot altogether, nice pool, nice surroundings, just all round NICE! Cheers guys.

Of the places we've visited
We rarely go again
But Inish Beg has called us
In sunshine or in rain
Old friends made us welcome
And there were new ones too
We swam, we walked, we fed the cat too
We saw birds and foxes and even a bat
We traveled to Clear and practiced our Irish
We explored the bays and watched the men fish
Voyager took us through rough water
On a dolphin watch and they came close quarter
But now we must leave for the second year
For the family call to the city I fear
For a wedding's planned and we must go
So farewell, so long and cheerio!!!

We enjoyed very much our time at the Boat House and had great moments: watching the sky, the tide, the seabirds flying, a swan flying by, cormorants and herons fishing... Walking at night on the estate pathways under the full moonlight listening to the night birds. The country is wonderful: Lough Hyne, Baltimore, Sherkin Island, Crookhaven, Mizen Head, Barleycove, Castletownshend... And anytime we came back we felt so good in this well designed and comfortable house and beautiful environment. This morning, before leaving we saw an otter swimming. Thank you for this peacefull stay!

The Boat House is exceptional. A wonderful piece of design, thought gone into every aspect - should win some additional awards - AJ/AR (Architectural Journal/Review) A true experience just being here and emotional to leave.

I am someone who finds it hard to chill out. Well this place is simply "chillicious". A paradise, a beautiful spot with architecture that has taken every aspect of this into consideration and luxuriously fitted out!!! What a combination! Just want to be here all the time...
John Bolger, Herts, UK, staying in the Boathouse
- 9th - 16th September 2006
What a unique experience. Ireland is more than I ever imagined - the scenery is "awesome". It would be interesting to come back to Inish Beg in a few years to see the changes made. It is truly a most beautiful setting - almost as if it were forgotten in time...

- 26th - 29th September 2006
A lovely location - well worth paying the extras for the Boat House. Some thoughts:
One Sibin Pub - great food (loads of it - especially if you like potatoes!)
One Charles [Fort?], Kinsale - worth visiting, value for money!
Nice walks around the estate
Drombeg Standing Stones - worth finding!
Saw one otter - it does exist :-)
"Fields" - brilliant shop
Annie Mays - splendidly Irish
Watch out for road signs! Difficult to find and when you do... they lie!
Hope to be back... a motley crew from Scotland.
Steve Kell, Scotland, staying in the Boathouse

I will arise and go now
To the river isle of Inish Beg
I will live in a Boat House there... ah if only

This years list: Mistle Thrush, Great black-backed Gull, Chaffinch, Grey Heron, Jackdaw, Hooded Crow, Oystercatcher, Little Egret, Redshank, Cormorant, Rook, Curlew, Mute Swan, Black-headed Gull, Herring Gull, Wigeon, Blackbird, Goldcrest, Wood Pigeon, Black-tailed Godwit, Treencreeper, Magpie, Meadow Pipit, Wren, Dunnock, Pobin, Dunlin, Golden Plover, Jay, Sparrowhawk, Teal, Pied Wagtail, Kestrel, Grey Wagtail... and last but certainly not least the famous mammals - we watched the Otter on three mornings fishing just off the slipway. Around low tide seems best. More regular visitors were two grey seals, often together just offshore.
We loved it here again, even though the weather was more changeable than last year. Wonderful trips to Mizen Head, Schull, Kinsale, Clonakilty.... this year we took a trip out to Cape Clear and were rewarded by wonderful scenery and Ireland's second ever Hermit Thrush, a migrant all the way from America. As good as any though is simply wandering around the lovely estate here on Inish Beg. We shall be back again soon.

Exceptional food, friends, accommodation and views that would make an otter dance! If only every year could begin like this. Bring on the Gout!

Thank you Paul. We had a wonderful week in Courtyard Cottage 1. Enjoyed the comfort of your hospitality - the fresh vegetables, the eggs, the farm animals, cows, horses, sheep and chickens, the carriage ride with Dolly was very informative - Finbarr was delightful and very helpful in telling us about the different breeds of cows. Loved the flower garden, the lovely paths and beautiful stone walls. Part of the pleasure is knowning how well run your Inish Beg is. The new stable doors are well done.

Thanks to you Paul for your vision and meticulous creation of a Garden of Eden - and forgive me for mixing metaphors but I also appreciate the discovery of a place of rest on a "road less traveled". We hope to return, but if not, our memories will suffice. Best Wishes!

It was sooooooo good! The cottages were perfect and everything was done brilliantly. We had so much fun in the swimming pool and the walks were just beautiful! The pony and trap ride was fantastic, it is such a good idea! We will definitely be coming back. Lots of love xxxxx

This is a place on earth, the Peace and Quiet was amazing. We did not want to leave, what a fantastic place, and the cat made it feel like home. Please remember to feed the cat - he loves milk! I know this is the beginning of a romance with Inish Beg and we will be back as soon as possible. Thank you.

3rd year here and everything getting bigger and better including our daughter who loves Guster, the dog which is her best friend. Cookie and Pumpkin - these three dogs are so friendly they made our stay somewhat better. Everytime we went for a walk they came. Anybody reading this should get to know Finbar who works here. His story telling is a treat and a laugh!!!!

We had a wonderful holiday here with our two little girls - both of whom were captivated by the horses, chickens and ponies - it is a wonderfully designed and impreccably maintained estate - others should look and learn. All awards are well deserved. Sorry to be leaving - 7 nights was simply not long enough! We hope to return soon.

Proof that if you search long and hard enough you can find decent places on the internet. A beautiful place and and ideal place for exploring West Cork. The estate and the accommodation are beautifully maintained and incredible peaceful! best bits of holiday included:
Best Beach - Sherkin Island - be warned if you have young children, take a pram, it's a good half hour walk from the ferry.
Best Deli/Café - first on the right going into Schull
Best Views from the Pub - Glandore
Best Bookshop (it rained a bit) - Bantry
Many thanks for a wonderful week.

We have ahad a lovely time here with all the space, the pool and being so close to nature. We went down a couple of times to see the otters, but unfortunately never saw any. We really enjoyed Inish Beg and will recommend it to our friends and family. We also had a good week going to different places around Inish Beg. Our top tips are:
Restaurant - O'Callaghan Walsh in Rosscarbery
Beach - One of the Sherkin Island beaches (but it's a long walk!)
Walk - Walking up Seefin on the Sheeps Head Peninsula
Activity - Whale watching in West Cork
TOP TOP TIP: come back here again!

Sometime last year I googled "luxury self catering in Ireland" - Inish Beg came up on the list and all the family had a look at the Boat House on the website. In reality it has proved to be as least as good, and arguable better, than we dared hope. So many thanks for having the vision to create such a place, may it prosper without losing its unique identity. We will all be talking about it for many years to come.

“The Boat House at Inish Beg, designed by architect Tony Cohu, has become a famous piece of modernist Irish architecture, sitting proud out on the water on the Inish Beg estate, Frank Lloyd Wright meets Glen Murcott on an island off the coast of – where else?- West Cork. Aside from the Boat House, there are lots of other superbly comfortable cottages to rent in Paul and Georgie Keane’s complex of rental properties, and there is also the terrifically delicious Inish Beg honey to be enjoyed”
